Restaurant Garota de Ipanema
Rio Restaurant Ipanema
Ipanema gained fame with the start of the bossa nova sound, when its residents Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes created their ode to their neighbourhood, and wrote the song ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ (Garota de Ipanema) in 1962.

The place where they wrote this song is Restaurant Garota de Ipanema, or at least, they claim it all happened there. The place is still open so if you like to have lunch dinner or supper in a place with a lot of history, go to Garota de Ipanema.

Both the service and the food are distinctly Portuguese and authentic. If you are after traditional service and willing to try some traditional (meat) dishes this is the place for you.

The address is Rua Vinícius de Moraes 49 in Ipanema. Phone: +55 21 2523-3787.

Of course new arrivals in Rio de Janeiro immediately run to Copacabana and Ipanema, but Santa Teresa has become a rival for the more adventurous tourists’ affections over the past few years.

Santa Teresa is a neighbourhood located on top of the Santa Teresa hill, nearby the centre of Rio, and is famous for its winding, narrow streets, which are a favourite spot for artists and tourists. There are many studios and galleries, but it’s also known for it’s many bars and restaurants.

We’d like to mention a few of them. Térèze, part of the chic Hotel Santa Teresa at Rua Felício dos Santos, provide the neighbourhoods most exclusive dinner option. Have a great dinner outside (in a tree house for example) in Restaurant Aprazível at Rua Aprazível 62. Or got to Bar do Mineiro to enjoy food, drinks and art. Rua Pascoal Carlos Magno 99.
