Galeria Mall (1 hr - ½ day)
One of the best places to go shopping in Dallas is Galeria. It is recognized by USA Today as one of the ‘Top 10 Places to shop’. If you like to see what kind of shops and restaurants you can expect, have a look at the shop directory here. The shopping mall even has an Ice-skating rink nestled in the stores and restaurants. The building has a glass-vaulted ceiling that is modeled after the historic Galleria Vittorio Emanele II in Milan, Italy.
Galleria is located just north of downtown Dallas at 13350 Dallas Parkway. Best way to go there is by car. There’s a parking garage with over 10.000 spaces. You can download a printable parking plan here. But there are some busses from downtown Dallas as well. Bus 183 is an express bus that leaves from West End Station.
Rodeo Show Stock Yards (3 hrs)
When you are in Texas, you have to see a rodeo show of course. In the Historic Cowtown Coliseum in Stock Yards, just outside Dallas are rodeo shows every Friday and Saturday night at 8 pm, year round. We were thinking if we should add this tip to Activities or Entertainment, but as this ‘activity’ is mostly about drinking beer and having junk food, we decided to put it in the entertainment section.
The Cowtown Coliseum offers all modern amenities, yet retains the feel of an historic site. Spectators can sit in air-conditioned comfort and view the best in Rodeo and Western action. The show will take about two hours. You can find the place at 121 E. Exchange Avenue Fort Worth. Tickets are $20 and can be bought at the door (cash only). You can buy them online as well, in that case you have to use your credit card.
Dining in Stock Yards (2 hrs)
When you are in Stock Yards, the most famous place to visit is Billy Bob's saloon, one of the largest saloons in the world. The place is open most days from 11 am to 9 pm and sometimes later. For exact information, click here. Directions to go there can be found here.
Billy Bob’s is fun to see, but the food is more junk food. If you prefer real good food, we suggest you go just around the corner to the H3Ranch, which is located at 105 E. Exchange Ave., Fort Worth. We had the best steaks here, with great beers and perfect waiters.
Texas State Fair (2 hrs – 1 day)
A great place to go to in autumn is the State Fair of Texas, which is an annual state fair held in Dallas. It usually begins the last Friday in September and ends 24 days later. During this period it is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
The entrance fee is $16,75. And besides that, you have to buy coupons as every food stall or attraction costs a certain amount of coupons. It is held at the historic Fair Park where it has been held since 1886. The address is 3921 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Dallas.
